Planning for 2026? Make AI Strategy Your Top Priority

Date:

As furniture retailers and manufacturers plan for 2026, one trend is emerging as the top priority: Artificial Intelligence (AI). While shifting tariffs dominated headlines in 2025, AI adoption is poised to have a far more significant impact on business performance in the year ahead.

AI Adoption Is Accelerating at an Unprecedented Rate

In less than a year, AI has moved from a “watch-and-prepare” technology to a critical factor for company success. Computational power for AI is doubling every six months, and adoption rates far outpace those of previous transformative technologies like the Internet or personal computers.

For example, ChatGPT reached 1 million users in just five days—an adoption speed unmatched by major social platforms or television in their early years. AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, CoPilot, and Claude are already being used widely, with more than half of furniture companies experimenting with generative applications, according to Furniture Today’s recent Leadership Conference.

Many Companies Lack Formal AI Policies

Despite widespread interest and adoption, few companies have formal strategies or policies in place to guide AI usage. Executives at the conference described the environment as the “wild, wild West,” with employees often signing up for paid accounts on the company dime and experimenting independently.

Without clear policies, businesses risk inefficiencies, inconsistent results, and lost opportunities. A structured approach to AI implementation is essential to ensure tools are used responsibly, ethically, and to maximize their impact on operations, marketing, and customer engagement.

Why AI Strategy Must Be a 2026 Priority

For furniture companies, developing an AI strategy in 2026 is no longer optional. Those who integrate AI thoughtfully can improve productivity, enhance decision-making, and gain a competitive edge in a rapidly evolving market. Equally important is establishing policies that guide employees, optimize AI investment, and prevent misuse.

Furniture Today plans to support companies with this transformation. In the coming months, the publication will launch an AI University workshop series and dedicate its March 16, 2026 issue entirely to AI implementation strategies and real-world applications in the furniture industry.

Bottom Line

AI is set to reshape how furniture businesses operate and compete in 2026. Companies that prioritize strategy, policy, and thoughtful adoption now will be best positioned to leverage AI for growth, innovation, and long-term success.
