Bobi Wine wants city road named after Pastor Yiga

Date:

Presidential aspirant Bobi Wine Sunday eulogised Pastor Augustine Yiga who died early this week and asked Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to honour his memories by naming one of the roads in the city after him.

“Pastor Yiga was my good friend. Him and I have come from far. Today, I want to take this opportunity to ask KCCA through the speaker, Abubaker Kawalya to pass a resolution to name one of the roads after Pastor Yiga. May the good Lord forgive Pastor Yiga and rest his soul in peace,” he said.

Mr Kawalya in his response asked for two weeks to pass a resolution to name one of the roads after the controversial pastor.

The two were part of thousands of mourners who thronged Christian Revival Church in Kawala, Kampala to pay their last respect to Pastor Yiga.

“Pastor Yiga was a strong man. He would stand by his word and would say what he believed in. That’s why his remarks about the Coronavirus outbreak in the country led to his arrest. But he still remained determined even in his detention. I’m very sure God will welcome him as a messenger and a prophet,” said Mityana Municipality MP, Francis Zaake who had accompanied the Kyadondo East MP, real name Robert Kyagulanyi. Advertisement

Background

Yiga was born on April 25, 1976, at Mpaama village in Bukomansimbi District. His mother, Elizabeth Kwagala, and father Joseph Matovu died in 2018 and 1995 respectively.
Yiga started his church in Kiwuunya in 2004 and relocated to Kawaala in 2005 where he established Christian Revival Church.

He lost the battle to liver complications Monday night at Nsambya hospital in Kampala.
