Cornelius Kodet Lorika Death: Renowned Ugandan Tycoon Passes Away After Long Illness

Date:

Death of Cornelius Kodet Lorika
Cornelius Kodet Lorika, the proprietor of Entebbe Aero Beach and a well-known Ugandan entrepreneur, has passed away after battling a prolonged illness for nearly three years. He died on Sunday, 7th December, 2025, in the comfort of his home in Nsamizi Zone near Entebbe State House, where a vigil was held in his honor by mourners last night.

Lorika had sought treatment at several hospitals, both within Uganda and internationally, but unfortunately, his health failed to improve. He leaves behind a legacy of successful investments and seven children, along with several grandchildren.

Compensation Claims and Legacy
Before his death, Lorika had made significant efforts to seek compensation for the losses he sustained during Uganda’s 1979/1980 liberation war. He had demanded Shs 9 billion from the government as compensation for his cattle and farm in Masindi district, which were taken by soldiers during the war. Despite repeated letters to the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, including one from President Museveni himself, Lorika never received a resolution or compensation for his claims.

In addition to his wartime losses, Lorika also claimed to have lost property worth Shs 13.5 billion during the insurgency in Karamoja between 1980 and 1990. His farm in Namalu village, Nakapiripiriti district, was raided by cattle thieves, but the compensation committee never visited to assess the damage.

Entrepreneurial Contributions
Aside from his efforts to seek compensation, Lorika was also recognized as one of Uganda’s most prominent entrepreneurs. He owned several significant investments, including Katuruum Lodges in Kidepo, Mt. Moroto Hotel, and Namalu Stock Farm. His contributions to Uganda’s business landscape will be remembered by many.

Burial Arrangements and Family
A tentative burial program is expected to be released today, pending final confirmation from his family. His passing marks the end of an era for one of Uganda’s most influential and respected business figures.
