Several Institutions in Soroti district have stepped up their preventive measures against the Corona Virus.
At Pamba Primary School, a jerrican of water and detergent has been placed at the gate for all pupils and visitors accessing the school premises to wash their hands.
One of the pupils, Sarah Asekenye says no one is allowed to access the school without first washing hands at the gate.
At the Uganda National Roads Authority-UNRA in Soroti, the sterilisers and water have been placed at the gate for all visitors entering the compound.
The situation isn’t any different at Soroti Municipal Council.
At Soroti Regional Referral Hospital, more disinfectants were delivered by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday.
Simon Kisabagire, the Principal Hospital Administrator, says all access points to the hospital have been served with disinfectants for all entrants in the units.
He, however, revealed that the hospital doesn’t have other protective gears like overalls for the staff, in case of any outbreak.

While institutions are prepared for any possible attack of Corona Virus, individuals continue to shake hands and hug each other in town and villages. In Serere villages, some residents have little knowledge of the virus and how to prevent infection.
Others have taken to Church to pray for God’s intervention in the face of the Coronavirus attack.
Corona viruses are known to cause respiratory infections ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), according to the World Health Organization, WHO. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.
COVID-19 presents with common symptoms like fever, tiredness, and dry cough. Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. The symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell.
Last week, Soroti residents got scared when the Director of Kings Kids Primary School, Kim Dunkuk quarantined himself after returning from Turkey. On Tuesday, health workers at one of the private health facilities in Soroti Town were thrown into panic when Kim, who had just landed in the country over the weekend, presented with excessive vomiting, headache and flu.
Although management of the facility requested for anonymity so as not to scare away patients, they revealed that the suspect abandoned treatment for fear of being exposed.
“This was an expectant mother who tested positive to malaria and typhoid. While taking her history, she told the officers that she was two days old after landing into Uganda. But while meeting another clinician, she said she had finished one-month home after returning from United Arab Emirates. The same patient requested to spend a night in the health facility, claiming that she wouldn’t be able to come for her next dose scheduled for 6:00am”, said the workers in the health facility.
