Ugandan tycoon Hamis Kiggundu has donated Shs20 million to the Uganda Cranes ahead of their opening match against Algeria in the CHAN 2024 tournament, scheduled for Monday, August 4, 2025.
Delivering the donation, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among shared his promise to reward the team with Shs20 million for every victory they secure in the tournament.
“Dr. Hamis gave me a token to hand over to you — Shs20 million for now,” she said. “He also pledged the same amount for each win the Cranes achieve.”
Hamis Kiggundu, CEO of Hamz Group of Companies, has long supported Ugandan football. His current flagship project — the reconstruction of Nakivubo Stadium — aims to deliver Kampala’s only internationally accredited football venue.
In addition to stadium development, Kiggundu is running the Hamz Up Tournament, which is currently in the round of 32. On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, Mutaasa Kaferro will face Original Kisekka Spare Center in the next match.
The tournament features over Shs100 million in prizes, with the champion taking home Shs50 million. The second, third, and fourth-place teams will earn Shs25 million, Shs15 million, and Shs10 million respectively. There are also individual awards for standout players.
Beyond team events, Dr. Hamis also supports individual athletes, helping them compete in global tournaments. His steady contributions reflect a growing effort to develop sports talent in Uganda.
Through his generous pledges and infrastructure projects, Hamis Kiggundu continues to cement his place as one of Uganda’s most influential sports philanthropists.
