Authorities in Hoima are on the lookout for Mr. Mukiibi Justus, a teacher at Premier Secondary School, following allegations that he assaulted two students for talking during an entrepreneurship test.
According to sources, Mr. Mukiibi became violent after asking students to hand in their papers since the time was up. While students were lining up to do so, one of Nyangoma’s classmates asked her to hand in her paper, but she refused.
Mr. Mukiibi then saw her talking and proceeded to slap and beat her in front of the class before dragging her into an office and assaulting her further.
The victim, Joan Nyangoma, was taken to Jobita Medical Centre, where she received treatment for her injuries, including back and chest pain, according to police reports.
The incident was confirmed by the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Julius Allan Hakiza, on Monday. The case is currently under investigation, and the teacher has been asked to provide facts on the matter.
The privately owned school has not commented on the incident, and it remains unclear whether any disciplinary action has been taken against the teacher.
It is worth noting that Article 106(a) of the Children’s Act of 2016 prohibits corporal punishment in schools, stating that those in positions of authority shall not subject children to any form of physical punishment. The allegations against Mr. Mukiibi, if proven to be true, would constitute a serious violation of this law.
