Jinja Progressive Academy Expelled from U20 Boys’ Football

Date:

Ngora, Uganda – May 14, 2025
The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) has taken strong disciplinary action against Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA), expelling the school from the ongoing 2025 U20 National Boys’ Football Championship being held at Ngora High School.

The decision comes after an investigation by the tournament’s National Organizing Committee, which found JIPRA guilty of fielding two ineligible playersIsabirye Adrian and Ntege Musa—both of whom had already received two yellow cards prior to their semifinal match against St. Mary’s Kitende on May 13.

More seriously, the school was also cited for violent behavior, including attacking match officials and inciting crowd disturbances, breaching USSSA rules 8.1 and 8.2.

As a result, the following penalties have been enforced:

  • Forfeiture of the semifinal match
  • Immediate disqualification from the championship
  • Eviction from the games village and surrounding Ngora District

Christopher Mugisha, CEO of USSSA, confirmed the sanctions and said additional disciplinary measures may follow after consultation with the Ministry of Education and Sports.

“USSSA upholds integrity and fair play in all its competitions. Such misconduct cannot be tolerated,” Mugisha emphasized.

The incident marks one of the most serious disciplinary actions in recent school football history and sends a strong message about the importance of sportsmanship and compliance in youth competitions.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dv1wDqSUi1A
