NEWS- The number of people who died in the January 15th Kasindi Church bombing has increased to past 40 according to the former Ugandan former Minister of defence and Kasese district NRM chairperson Dr. Chrispus Walter Kiyonga
This was in a press release where he condemned the act calling upon communities on the Uganda-Congo border to take extra caution in safeguarding their lives against the rebels.
“I condemn in very strong terms this terrorist act and I use this opportunity to convey my deep condolences to the families of the brothers and sisters who have been killed or injured by this very ugly act. We pray to the Almighty God to rest the souls of the deceased persons in eternal peace” Kiyonga said.
The population in Uganda is strongly advised to exercise a very high degree of alertness, particularly when they are in crowds, including in houses of prayer, in villages or cells, urban centers.
People are also advised to look out for strangers and cooperate with their village chairpersons together with security personnel for thorough cross examination.
Following the incident, the South Ruwenzori Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku has directed all church leaders across the Diocese to put in place all possible measures that would help in identifying new and strange people who might join the congregation during fellowships.
According to the Prelate, church leaders should introduce security metal detectors at all the church entrances, report new and strange people to the relevant authorities and to also ensure that the Christians limit the luggage, especially the bags that they do come with to the church.
However, the Bishop prayed to God to forgive such heartless terrorists who, according to him, do not know what they are doing.
Lt. Joe Walusimbi, the Kasese RDC said that Uganda is ably manning her borders, but advised managers of busy and happening places including bus terminals, markets, places of worship to be extra vigilant and identify new and strange faces, and subsequently report them to security agencies.
Lt. Walusimbi also encouraged the people crossing the border to DR Congo from Uganda and vice versa to use the appropriate channels of immigration department so that they are provided with the necessary travel documents for security purposes.
“Pass through the rightful channels to be free from being suspected of terror acts or even incarcerated” Said Walusimbi.
Walusimbi revealed that his office is planning to hold a security meeting with hotel, guest house and restaurant owners on how they should handle their guests.
