Ministry of Works closed after 9 staff test positive for COVID-19

Date:

The Ministry of Works and Transport office in Kampala has been closed after nine staff tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday. The patients and their 13 contacts, mostly drivers were handed over to the ministry of Health, for treatment and observation.

Minister of Works and Transport Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala directed to have all ministry staff tested for COVID-19, and up to 319 staff were tested during the drive held early in the week.

Waiswa Bageya, the ministry of Works permanent secretary says that the head office, mechanical unit and the testing laboratory in Kireka, Wakiso district have also been closed for fumigation until September 7.

Bageya says that other ministry staff at the regional offices and mechanical units in Jinja, Gulu, Mbarara and Mbale will also be tested and their offices fumigated next week.

Susan Kataike, the ministry of Works public relations officer says the tests and results have eased the tension that was inhibited among staffs and also given them a resting time as the offices are fumigated.
