Mwine Tumwebaze Wins NRM Youth MP Western Uganda Flag

Date:

Mwine Tumwebaze NRM Youth MP candidate has secured the party’s flag for Western Uganda after a tense primary election. He won with 353 votes, representing 40% of the 981 ballots cast. The results were announced by NRM Electoral Commission Vice Chairperson Fred Jachan Omach.

Elizabeth Kakwanzi, who was seen as a strong contender, finished second with 277 votes, or 31.4%. Despite her earlier mobilization success, she fell short in the final round. Ezra Byakutangaza followed with 108 votes (12.2%), while Daisy Kankiriho Arinda scored 86 votes (9.8%). The remaining ten candidates each received less than 4%, showing the clear dominance of the top contenders.

The race drew attention because of its crowded field and high competition. Kakwanzi built strong visibility at the start. However, Tumwebaze’s grassroots support allowed him to consolidate votes and secure victory. He now carries the NRM flag for the Western Region Youth MP slot in the 2026 general elections.

Beyond Mwine Tumwebaze NRM Youth MP win, the NRM confirmed Diana Ampaire as the party’s flag bearer for National Youth MP (Female). She secured 1,912 votes, or 58.6%, against Mercy Kanyesigye, who collected 1,269 votes (38.9%). Ampaire’s commanding lead places her in a strong position for the next election.

At the national level, Tanga Collins reclaimed the role of NRM National Youth League Chairperson. He achieved 2,185 votes, accounting for 68%, while Brenda Kiconco trailed with 1,017 votes (32%). This result confirmed Collins’s wide support and influence in the party’s youth leadership.

These results are part of a larger NRM plan to strengthen its youth and entrepreneurs’ structures across 151 districts. The primaries did not only produce individual winners. They also highlighted the party’s effort to renew its leadership and prepare younger politicians for future roles.

The Mwine Tumwebaze NRM Youth MP victory shows how competitive Uganda’s youth politics have become. With the Western Uganda flag in hand, Tumwebaze must now focus on building alliances and preparing for the 2026 general elections. His win injects new energy into the NRM’s youth structures and reshapes political dynamics in the region.
