President Museveni Commends Busoga’s Role in NRM Struggle and Urges Sustainable Development

Date:

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has lauded the people of Busoga for their active involvement in the prolonged struggle that led to the establishment of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government in 1986. Speaking at the 38th NRM victory anniversary celebrations in Jinja City, President Museveni expressed gratitude for the continuous support from the people of Busoga, emphasizing their role in the victory.

Accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, the President highlighted key figures and locations in Busoga that played crucial roles during the struggle. He acknowledged individuals like Eng. Sam Kasadha, William Nkoko, Rashid Ntale, James Mbigit, Badru Lubanga, and Mzee Kivejinja, among others, who supported the NRM throughout the journey.

The celebrations, held at St. John SSS Wakitaka Playgrounds in Jinja Northern Division, revolved around the theme “Building a Country we all cherish.” President Museveni urged the locals to pay close attention to the NRM’s message, emphasizing the four-acre model as a strategy for enhancing livelihoods. He advised against sugarcane and cotton cultivation for those with small land, suggesting alternative crops and activities like coffee, fruits, zero grazing for dairy cattle, food crops, pigs, chicken, and fish farming.

President Museveni also called for the preservation of swamps and cautioned against encroaching on them for rice growing, proposing their use for irrigation to enhance agricultural productivity.

Additionally, the President rallied the people of Busoga to support the renewed fight against saboteurs of Universal Primary Education (UPE). He addressed issues of school fees and pledged government efforts to address challenges in the education sector.

During the event, President Museveni addressed concerns raised by locals about missing Parish Development Model (PDM) funds and road conditions. He assured the residents that the government would investigate and take appropriate action.

Responding to an accident victim, Moses Ssimbwa, who confessed to being used by the opposition to make false accusations of torture against the government, President Museveni pledged to expose such individuals and groups. He urged the public to be vigilant against misinformation campaigns by the opposition.

Vice President Jessica Alupo congratulated President Museveni and Ugandans on the 38th NRM victory day anniversary, commending the President for his leadership and commitment to inclusive development.

The ceremony included the recognition of deserving Ugandans with medals, and former Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Royal Highness Henry Wako Muloki, was among the recipients.

The NRM victory day, celebrated annually on January 26th, marks the day when the NRA/M government came into power after a prolonged people’s struggle under the visionary leadership of President Museveni. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the Chief Justice, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, NRM First Vice National Chairman, and other government officials.
