PROFILE: Quick facts you need to know about young city tycoon Segawa Haruna Sentongo.

Haruna is a young business man owning a multi-billion real estate company Haruna Enterprises which develops and manages commercial building in the city centre such as Haruna Towers in Wandegeya,Haruna Mall in Ntinda, one of Kampala’s suburbs among many others.

Who is Haruna Sentongo?

Born November 30, 1987, in Kalungu, Masaka District to Hajji Segawa Haruna.

Studied primary from Masaka, O level at Kabojja international School and finished high school at East high Ntinda

Haruna later joined Makerere university before starting the real estate business

Haruna’s raise to fame

Haruna rose to fame after completing his first building, Haruna Towers in Wandegeya which introduced him to the Ugandan Media.

He founded his real estate Firm, Haruna Enterprises (U) Ltd while still at University. Constructed his first Haruna Towers, with glass curtain wall finishing in the city suburb of Kubiri in 2012. It emerged the First glass girded building in the ghetto suburb of Kubiri.

His property was occupied by corporate organizations like Umeme and Hung project among other which could massively advertise making his name famous given that fact that he named the building after himself.

In 2013 Haruna went to Ntinda and also bought land and constructed another glass girded curtain wall building. It was also the first one of its kind in the city suburb of Ntinda and he also gave it his name hence becoming the talk of town in press and social media was inevitable.  

When asked why he drives very expensive cars and yet claim to be financially very disciplined, Haruna said he can’t run a $100million business empire and again drive a Premio, when he indeed has the money.

In Haruna’s compound, he paraded the latest posh rides in town like 2018 Lexus LX 570, Bentley Continental GT V8, Range Rover Sport, Mercedes Benz, BMW X6, Audi Q7, and Audi Q7 among others.

His unknown Property

Nakayiza Market

Haruna owns Nakayiza Market, located behind Kafumbe Mukasa road, Next to Kiganda’s Church in Kisenyi. This market which occupies 2 acres and valued at $35Million according to the observed evaluation report, is Uganda’s number one Agro produce market housing over 800 shops and store. People in this market trades in rice, beans, soya, maize flour, millet and sorghum, cereals and other which they buy locally. Some food items are imported into the country. These are sold locally while some is shipped for export to other parts of the world. Some of the customers who buy farm produce from this market include international humanitarian organization like UN, WFP and others. Others are large companies like schools, hospitals among others.

This property is unknown to be his simply because he did not give it his name. He instead named it after his beloved mother.

Segawa Market

Segawa Market is located on Mwanga II road, just Opposite the Lubiri entrance. Just Like kiseka market, Segawa aspires to be the one stop center that sells spare parts for motorcycles, vehicles and other light machinery, occupying over an acre housing over 350 shops, with the largest parking space in Kampala yet open 24 hours a day.
The market is valued at $9 according to a valuation report seen.
This property his also not known to be his simply because he named it after his father.

How he accumulated his wealth

His source of wealth is attributed to hard work, financial discipline and bank loans well used

Recently, baseless reports had it that Haruna was just a front of government politicians who embezzle public funds and make investments through him.

However, our conclusive exclusive research has established that his father Haji Segawa gave some capital to Haruna in early 2000 to do business while studying and Haruna started importing ladies bags from china. He could later sell them at a relatively high profit margin both on wholesale and retail.

In 2005 he expanded and owned a very big furniture shop on bed Kiwanuka Road. He could import furniture from China and distribute to homes, Offices and hotels in Uganda, South Sudan, Congo and Rwanda.

In 2007 Haruna diversified and Started Importing garments from China, Thailand, Malaysia and Distributes them to Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan Congo & within Uganda both at Wholesale and retail basing from Mukwano Arcade. He could also supply to a n umber of retailers within the city Centre. Given his large volume of sales from his garments and Furniture shops, he generated some reasonable savings that enabled him to purchase and prime Plot of Land along bombo Road in Wandegeya and also start the first phase of construction.

In 2011, he established Haruna Enterprises, a limited liability company through which he obtained loan facilities to complete his first property and also setup other shopping malls as well as starting the first phase of the construction of his fist renown Shopping Mall (Haruna Towers).

Haruna later on obtained a loan facility from different banks to complete his building and continued with property development until now.

2017 reports indicated that he was valued at $105 million.
