Seeta University Partners with Teesside University for Science Scholarships and Global Exposure

Date:

Seeta University will officially open in August 2025. The university has partnered with Teesside University in Middlesbrough, UK, to offer scholarships to science students. These students will study in Uganda for two years and complete their final year in the UK. As a result, they will gain global exposure and practical experience, significantly enhancing their career opportunities.

Mr. Ronald Mbago, Seeta University’s Administrator and Academic Registrar, shared details about the partnership with Monitor on June 9. He emphasized that the university aims to produce graduates who are not only highly skilled but also globally competitive. The program combines academic learning with practical work experience, ensuring that students are well-prepared for their careers.

“Our goal is to create graduates who can excel in any sector, both locally and internationally,” Mbago said.

Seeta University will offer degrees and diplomas in various fields, including Nursing Science, Public Health, Pharmacy, Biochemistry, Industrial Mathematics, Software Engineering, Computer Science, and Law. Additionally, the university plans to introduce more programs to meet the evolving needs of the workforce.

Exchange Program under the Seeta University Teesside Partnership

Dr. Maurice Tamale, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance, explained the program’s structure. Initially, students will begin with online courses in Uganda. After two years, they will transition to Teesside University for their final year. This exchange program ensures that students gain hands-on experience, which is vital for their professional growth.

“The exchange will provide Ugandan students with the chance to gain practical experience and develop the skills they need to succeed globally,” Dr. Tamale said.

Dr. Lawrence Nyazi, Director of the Doctoral Programme at Seeta University, discussed how this partnership will benefit Uganda’s workforce. Students will gain exposure to international expertise, making them more employable. In addition, this initiative will help improve Uganda’s healthcare system by producing skilled professionals.

Teesside University’s Investment in Practical Learning

Teesside University has invested heavily in state-of-the-art facilities to offer practical learning. Jessica Watson, Deputy Director of International Development, emphasized the importance of providing students with hands-on learning experiences. Moreover, Teesside offers flexible tuition payment options, allowing students to pay in installments throughout the academic year.

“We are committed to providing our students with the best resources and opportunities to ensure they receive world-class education,” Watson said.

Isaac Sewanonda, a member of Seeta High Old Students’ Association, praised the initiative. He was particularly impressed by the law faculty’s courtroom, where students will gain real-world experience.

“I’m proud of the law faculty,” Sewanonda said. “The courtroom facility here is better than many others in the country. Our students will gain practical experience right here, without needing to search for internships elsewhere.”

In May 2025, Seeta University and Teesside University formalized their partnership by signing a memorandum of understanding. This collaboration will offer Ugandan students high-quality education, blending academic studies with hands-on experience. Moreover, the program will offer international exposure and practical skills, ensuring students succeed in the global job market.
