Police Unveil Details of Kampala Paralegal’s Hired Murder Scheme
In a shocking revelation, the police have disclosed that a senior officer was at the heart of a conspiracy to kill Ronnie Mukisa, a paralegal from Kampala, over a staggering sum of $1 million. The police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, provided an update on the murder investigation, confirming that Superintendent of Police (SP) Vincent Irama, the deputy commander of Kampala Metropolitan North police, chaired the meeting orchestrating Mukisa’s murder.
Previously, the police had detained SP Irama as one of the four main suspects connected to the brutal slaying that occurred on the night of May 30. Investigations revealed that Mukisa had a business conflict with two of the suspects, Robert Karedou and his wife Brenda Nalwoga, who alleged that the victim had swindled over $1 million from them.
Seeking assistance, Karedou and Nalwoga contacted their friend, SP Irama, who then conspired with them to hire Corporal Max Anyuse as the hitman. A dedicated task team of investigators and intelligence personnel diligently worked for 11 days to establish a clear chain of evidence linking the four suspects.
The initial breakthrough came with the arrest of the three prime suspects—Karedou, Nalwoga, and Cpl Anyuse—from their residence in Kasana LC I Kulambiro. The subsequent search of their premises led to the recovery of incriminating items, including two AK 47 magazines with 52 rounds of ammunition and military uniforms.
According to police accounts, Cpl Anyuse called Nalwoga on May 30 to inform her that he had successfully carried out the mission to kill Mukisa. The paralegal was shot four times by Anyuse as he approached the main gate of his residence. Anyuse, who had been tailing Mukisa in a dark blue Subaru, swiftly escaped on a waiting motorcycle.
However, during subsequent interrogations, Cpl Anyuse contradicted his earlier admission of shooting the victim using a gun supplied by SP Irama. He led the task team to the location where he had hidden the weapon—a gun he had obtained from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The police found the firearm wrapped in a polythene bag behind the boys’ quarters at a rented apartment in Kitiko-Birongo.
Further searches at SP Irama’s known premises resulted in the recovery of an official pistol and an AK 47 rifle with 30 bullets, two of which had been recently replaced. These weapons, along with the bullets recovered, have been submitted to forensic experts for examination. Additionally, another suspected weapon used in the killing, recovered on June 12, 2023, will also undergo analysis by ballistics experts.
The police spokesperson confirmed that all four suspects will face charges of murder and related conspiracies in court. Enanga reassured the deceased’s family and the public that the investigators are tirelessly working to apprehend the remaining culprits.
In response to this horrific crime, joint security forces condemned the actions of the two officers involved, emphasizing that such indiscipline, barbarism, and aggressive behavior have no place within the forces. The incident was deemed regrettable and not reflective of the disciplined forces of the police and the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF).
As the investigation unfolds, the authorities will be keen to bring all those responsible to justice and restore faith in the security forces entrusted with protecting the lives of Ugandans.
