State Minister for International Affairs Welcomes New Japanese Ambassador to Uganda

The State Minister for International Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem, recently received copies of letters of credence from Takuya Ssasayama, the newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to Uganda. Ambassador Sasayama brings a wealth of experience from his extensive career in the Japanese Foreign Service, spanning over three decades.

Having served in various diplomatic roles across the globe, Ambassador Sasayama assumes his new position in Uganda, succeeding Ambassador Fukuzawa Hidemoto. Prior to his appointment, he served as the Consul-General of Japan in Toronto and undertook duty tours in several key diplomatic posts, including Washington, DC, Seoul, Mexico City, Kuala Lumpur, Ottawa, and Egypt.

During the reception ceremony, Ambassador Sasayama conveyed warm regards from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, reflecting on the positive reception he experienced during his visit to Uganda in 2023. Minister Okello extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Sasayama, emphasizing the longstanding friendship between Uganda and Japan.

Minister Okello acknowledged Japan’s significant contributions to Uganda’s development through technical assistance programs facilitated by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD). He commended Japan’s approach to development assistance, highlighting the principles of mutual respect and equal partnership.

Ambassador Sasayama expressed his enthusiasm for working in Uganda and exploring the country’s diverse landscapes. He highlighted Japan’s ongoing commitment to grassroots human security projects in Uganda, initiated in 1992 and continuing to make a positive impact across the nation. Ambassador Sasayama also mentioned the embassy’s plans to launch additional projects in the future.

With his extensive background in diplomacy, Ambassador Sasayama brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role as Ambassador of Japan to Uganda. His tenure promises to further strengthen the bilateral relations between Japan and Uganda, fostering cooperation and mutual understanding for the benefit of both nations.
