Stecia Mayanja Wows Fans in Sold-Out Comeback Concert in Kampala

After nearly ten years off the local stage, Ugandan music legend Stecia Mayanja returned with a bang, headlining a sold-out show that lit up the Victoria Hall at Serena Hotel, Kampala. Dubbed the ‘Hajjat Stecia Live Concert’ and powered by Stanbic Bank Uganda, the event drew a multigenerational crowd that packed the venue well before 7:30 PM.

The show opened with a nostalgic Luganda mix by Selector Sula from JJ Sounds, igniting early excitement. TikTok personality Teacher Kipopo and his wife were among the first to get the crowd on its feet with their signature dance moves.

At 8:10 PM, popular journalists Miles Rwamiti and Rebecca Jjingo took to the stage, setting the mood with light-hearted banter and an upbeat introduction. Without any opening acts, Stecia made a dazzling entrance in a golden hijab, kicking off her performance with the crowd favorite ‘Tuli mumpaka.’

The night unfolded into a deeply immersive experience. Backed by a live band, Stecia delivered hit after hit—‘Kantuntunu’, ‘Ssisubira’, ‘Mwami Wange’, ‘Ojira Olindako’, ‘Silinda Bidde’, and ‘Allah Kareem’—infusing drama, storytelling, and powerful vocals.

A standout moment came when she performed ‘Wabanswaliza’ alongside singer Charles Ssekyewa. He followed up with his solo tracks, giving Stecia time to prepare for her second act, where she returned in full Kiganda traditional attire for a cultural-themed set.

Guest artists Hajji Haruna Mubiru and Shirah Nabansumba maintained the momentum, entertaining the audience with songs like ‘Yegwe’, ‘Binyuma’, and ‘Ticket’. FlexiPay’s Marketing Manager Jackie Abwol praised the show as “a masterpiece that celebrated both modern and traditional Ugandan music.”

Catherine Kusasira and Ronald Mayinja added a nostalgic touch to the evening, performing classics that sparked massive sing-alongs.

Stecia’s final set was a powerful one. Dressed in a white-and-gold hijab, she electrified the crowd with ‘Equalizer’ and energetic renditions of ‘Kabalagala’, ‘Fitting’, ‘Sofa Set’, ‘Kawompo’, ‘Remote’, and more. Her surprise gospel tributes to Judith Babirye and Pastor Wilson Bugembe reflected on her personal journey abroad.

The show was graced by notable guests from the central government and Buganda Kingdom, capping off an unforgettable evening that not only marked Stecia’s grand return but also revitalized Uganda’s live music scene.
