Eleven suspects who were arrested for pelting singer Moses Ssali alias Bebe Cool have been released on the request of the musician.

Bebe Cool was pelted with bottles on Saturday while performing at Boom Party concert organised by musician Cinderella Sanyu popularly known as Cindy at Cricket Oval grounds in Nakawa Division, in Kampala.

Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, revealed that the suspects were arrested by crime intelligence’s covert officers who were deployed into the crowd in anticipation of misbehavior.

Police said the group entered the venue with plastic bottle sodas which they later hurled at Bebe Cool.

Enanga identified the suspects as Ssempala Juma, Otim Ashraf, Nasur Nyanzi, Kasule Herman, Kasim Ssemwogere, Lubaga Fahima, Jawad Jimmy, Muhwezi Gift, Habuyi Suleiman, Habimana Innocent and Ndabangi Godwin.

On Tuesday Bebe Cool arrived at Jinja police station demanding for the release of the suspects.

Upon arriving at Jinja Road police counter, he asked to be directed to the Criminal Investigation Department. He held a meeting with CID boss Assistant Superintendent of Police –ASP Godwin Agaba.

Although ASP Agaba tried to explain to Bebe Cool that he had no powers to release the suspects whose file was almost complete, Bebe Cool said he could not leave the station without his fans.

He says that the arrested suspects are known to him for many years as his top fans but they are just being misled by people.

After about four hours of interaction, Bebe Cool was later allowed to see the suspects and later released.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala police spokesperson, said police had no option but to let the singer go with the suspects since he explained that he had forgiven them.

Bebe Cool said he was going to speak to his fans and advise them to avoid being used by political opportunists. Although efforts to access the suspects’ statements hit a snag, sources said seven of the suspects claimed they are members of Gagamel music group founded by Bebe Cool. They claimed that their role is to promote the singer through wearing t-shirts with his name, image or music label.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s son, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, took to tweeter criticizing the police and bouncers for allowing in what he termed as ‘hooligans’ to hurl bottles at Uganda’s ‘greatest artistes’.

Lt Gen Kainerugaba said the hooligans had also beat up women on Women’s Day just because they love his father President Museveni. The first son demanded that police should improve its work methods.
