Uganda’s Historic Crested Hotel to be Demolished, YMCA Jinja to Host Relocation

Date:

In a significant development for Uganda’s hospitality and education sectors, authorities from the Uganda Hotel & Tourism Training Institute (UHTTI) have announced plans to demolish the iconic Old Crested Hotel next month. The demolition, scheduled to take place on an undisclosed date in August, is set to pave the way for a new era in accommodation and training services. The authorities have confirmed that both the hotel services and the renowned training education center will be relocated to YMCA Jinja, effective from July 31.

The Old Crested Hotel, with its rich history and grandeur, has been a cornerstone of the country’s hospitality landscape for several decades. However, the decision to demolish the establishment stems from a need to modernize and expand the facilities offered by the UHTTI, as well as to meet the growing demands of Uganda’s thriving tourism industry.

The relocation to YMCA Jinja promises to be an exciting opportunity for both the staff and students of UHTTI. With its state-of-the-art infrastructure and strategic location, YMCA Jinja has been chosen as the ideal destination to host the hotel services and training education center. The move is expected to provide students with a dynamic and enriching learning environment while offering guests a contemporary and comfortable experience.

Mr. Joseph Kato, the spokesperson for UHTTI, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming transition. “The decision to relocate to YMCA Jinja was not taken lightly. We believe that this move will enable us to provide better facilities for our students and patrons. YMCA Jinja’s reputation for excellence in education and hospitality aligns perfectly with our vision for the future,” he remarked.

The relocation process is carefully planned to minimize disruptions to both hotel guests and students. As of July 31, the Old Crested Hotel will cease its operations at the current site, and all hotel reservations and bookings will be transferred seamlessly to YMCA Jinja. Additionally, the education center will also commence its operations at the new location on the same date.

The management of YMCA Jinja has expressed delight in welcoming UHTTI to their premises. “We are honored to be chosen as the new home for Uganda Hotel & Tourism Training Institute. This partnership marks a new chapter in our commitment to nurturing talent and providing top-notch services to the hospitality industry,” stated Ms. Florence Mwesigye, Director of YMCA Jinja.

As the demolition date approaches, many Ugandans reminisce about the cherished memories associated with the Old Crested Hotel. However, the excitement surrounding the move to YMCA Jinja is palpable, and the anticipation of witnessing a fresh chapter in Uganda’s hospitality and tourism sector is growing.

The Uganda Hotel & Tourism Training Institute has assured the public that the essence of the institution’s legacy will be preserved and further enhanced at YMCA Jinja. With a blend of tradition and innovation, the new establishment is poised to leave an indelible mark on the industry and foster the next generation of skilled professionals in the hospitality sector.

As the countdown to the demolition begins, Ugandans eagerly await the dawn of a promising future for the country’s hospitality and education sectors. YMCA Jinja, with its warm embrace, stands ready to welcome the UHTTI community, promising an extraordinary journey of growth and excellence.
