Veterinary Department Restricts Access to Arua Abattoir

Dr Willy Nguma the Veterinary Officer Arua on Saturday said that slaughtering of animals will also be done in shifts involving ten persons for cattle and two for goats and sheep.

Arua district Veterinary department has restricted access to the municipal abattoir to only ten people.

Dr Willy Nguma the Veterinary Officer Arua on Saturday said that slaughtering of animals will also be done in shifts involving ten people for cattle and two for goats and sheep.

Daily, over 100 herds of cattle, goats and sheep are slaughtered at the Municipal Abattoir.

Nguma also said that effective Sunday, police and UPDF shall be deployed at the Abattoir to ensure not more than ten people access the Abattoir like on other days.

Currently, Arua Municipal Abattoir accommodates over 150 people daily who among others sell, slaughter, skin, park and transport meat while others ensure the security of animals.

Saidi Seyyid, the Chairman Arua Livestock Sellers Traders and Meat Sellers Association said many of the cattle traders are still adamant on the Presidential directive on social distancing.

However, some of the livestock traders and meat sellers note that many of their members who have been earning a living from the abattoir will be rendered jobless.
