Badman Snappy Freed on Bond After Computer Misuse Charge

Date:

Badman Snappy arrest has stirred public outcry after police at Adjumani Central Police Station released Nelson Mandela Korani, widely known as Badman Snappy, on bond following a charge of Computer Misuse.

Korani, a resident of Dzaipi Sub-county, appeared before the Adjumani District Security Committee at the invitation of Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Peter Taban Data. After the meeting, police detained him briefly for questioning over TikTok videos highlighting damaged infrastructure in the district.

Speaking through his lawyer, Emmanuel Odit of Matovu NJ and Company Advocates, Korani secured release after recording a statement. According to him, the summons came via a phone call from the RDC.

“I informed my lawyer and honored the RDC’s invitation. Once at his office, they asked my lawyer to step aside. I was then questioned alone,” he said.

Badman Snappy Arrest Sparks Free Speech Concerns

Korani said authorities accused him of sharing videos showing a dilapidated government-aided primary school and broken power poles. They argued his posts tarnished the government’s image.

“I explained that I shared these issues to raise awareness and improve service delivery—not to insult the government. They called me stubborn and handed me over to the police,” he added.

After his release, he reaffirmed that his videos aimed to expose both positive and negative realities in Adjumani, not to incite unrest.

Security Officials Respond to Social Media Backlash

RDC Peter Taban Data confirmed inviting Korani “in good faith,” but said the influencer was uncooperative during questioning. He denied direct involvement in the police bond process.

“As far as I know, he’s at home. You can call him to confirm,” said Taban.

Meanwhile, SSP Dick Ayesigomwe, Adjumani District Police Commander, confirmed Korani’s statement was recorded.

“Our aim was to understand his intent. Free expression is a right, but we must also examine how it’s used,” Ayesigomwe stated.

SP Collins Asea, West Nile Police PRO, declined to comment by press time, saying he was in a meeting.

Public Reacts to Badman Snappy’s Detention

Korani’s arrest sparked outrage online across West Nile, with many accusing security organs of suppressing freedom of speech. Critics argue that the Computer Misuse Act is being applied to intimidate government critics.

The police bond document shows that Korani must report back to Adjumani Central Police Station on June 24, 2025, as investigations continue.
