Coronavirus Pandemic: Parliament Closes Gym

Date:

Allan Ssewanyana, the Makindye West MP, says there is no need for panic, adding that what the country needs now is preparedness.

As more measures are put in place to prevent the Corona virus, the Sergeant-at-Arms in Parliament, Ahmed Kagoye has closed the gym at the parliament.

He communicated the closure of the gym in a notice issued on March 16th, 2020. Kagoye noted that the gym will remain closed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The closure of the gym hasn’t gone down well with some legislators, saying it is an overreaction since no corona virus case has been reported in the country.

Allan Ssewanyana, the Makindye West MP, says there is no need for panic, adding that what the country needs now is preparedness.

Muhammad Nsereko, the Kampala Central MP also disagrees with the closure of the gym, saying it is a fitness center, which is meant to keep MPs fit and healthy.

However, the Kazo County MP, Gordon Bafaki has welcomed the closure of the gym, saying Parliament should actually be closed.

He says that since the disease affects so many people, the best option is to avoid groups.

The coronavirus has so far killed 7000 people and infected 180,000 people worldwide.
