Entebbe municipality deputy mayor, Richard Ssekyondo and three others were on Thursday arrested for allegedly inciting violence.
This was during the repeat elections for Entebbe Division ‘B’ Parish youth committee leaders. The elections were cancelled on Wednesday due to acts of violence.
Ssekyondo, who was one of the polling agents for Democratic Party’s candidate Henry Nteza, was arrested on Thursday with Rodric Kiwewa, Paul Niwagaba and Ronald Serunjogi, all DP supporters for allegedly instigating violence against supporters of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
NRM supporters accused Ssekyondo and his group for provoking them and warning them of violence if their candidate is defeated.
DP supporters protested the arrest of Ssekyondo, sparking tension at Entebbe Division B Parish office. The accused security personnel of siding with the NRM party supporters.
They also accused security personnel of beating up DP supporters and yet it is the NRM supporters who allegedly provoked them first. On Friday several DP supporters pitched camp at Entebbe police station demanding for Ssekyondo’s release.
