H.E. Gen. Museveni promotes 528 UPDF Officers to higher ranks

KAMPALA, UGANDA: President Yoweri Museveni – the Commander In Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), has promoted 528 UPDF officers, including 3 Lieutenant Colonels to the rank of full Colonel.

The development was confirmed by Defence spokesperson, Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu in a brief statement on Sunday, January 16, 2022.

“The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs and UPDF are pleased to announce the elevation of 528 UPDF officers to different ranks by His Excellency the President and Commander In Chief of UPDF,” Kakurungu said.

He added; “The promoted officers include; 03 officers from the rank of Lieutenant Colonel to Colonel, 27 from Major to Lieutenant Colonel and 498 from Captain to Major.”

Famous among those promoted are Lt Col Benard Tumwesigire, Lt Col Mark Mugarura and Lt Col Stephen Nereko, all elevated to full Colonel ranks.

“The Ministry of Defence and UPDF fraternity congratulate the officers upon the well-deserved promotions,” the statement further reads.
