Hamson Obua, the Chief Whip of the Ugandan government, has commended Huawei Uganda for the successful implementation of the DigiTruck project, which has significantly advanced digital literacy in the Lango sub-region.

During a ceremony at the Boma Grounds in Alebtong District, where 241 individuals completed the project, Obua praised the strong partnership between Uganda and China. He highlighted the arrival of the DigiTruck in Alebtong, following its positive impact in the Teso and Busoga regions, emphasizing the importance of digital skills for upcoming government projects, such as the national census.

Obua encouraged the youth to leverage their newfound skills to foster development in Alebtong and beyond, reinforcing the idea that every successful journey begins with small steps.

Gao Jian, the Deputy Managing Director of Huawei Uganda, explained that the DigiTruck project falls under the broader TECH4ALL initiative, aimed at promoting digital inclusivity and sustainability worldwide.

The training program in Alebtong, which ran from February to March 5, 2024, included a diverse group of students, educators, farmers, health workers, and government officials. Jian expressed satisfaction with the gender balance among the participants and the empowerment they gained through ICT education.

Jian acknowledged the warm reception of the DigiTruck in Alebtong and the local leadership’s role in facilitating this opportunity for the community.

He celebrated the graduation of 241 Ugandans from the program in the Lango region, affirming that ICT education is essential, not a luxury.
