Impostor in Buikwe Arrested for Stealing Drugs

Wycliffe Mukwaya and his girlfriend, Josephine Nabisire were arrested from their rented room in Kasanjja B zone, Njeru division, Buikwe district.

Police in Jinja district has arrested a student of Hoima School of nursing and midwifery over stealing government drugs from Jinja regional referral hospital.

Wycliffe Mukwaya and his girlfriend, Josephine Nabisire were arrested from their rented room in Kasanjja B zone, Njeru division, Buikwe district. 

The suspects had in possession, IV therapy bottles, 28 cannulas, injections, unpacked coartem tablets, a BP machine and other yet to be identified tablets in different containers. 

Mukwaya, a clinical officer is said to have disguised as one of the intern doctors at the hospital’s outpatient department-OPD which granted him access to the drugs. 

Mukwaya told journalists that, he was volunteering at the facility after searching for a job in vain. 

Mukwaya stresses that he opted to take some of the drugs after realizing that, they were expiring in the next two months.

“I took it upon myself to take the said drugs after cross-checking that, they were soon expiring and the patient numbers were too small to consume them,” he says. 

Sazil Baaje, the village L.C.1 chairperson of Kasanjja zone B village says that he wasn’t aware of any clinic in the area.

On her part, Angella Namala, the hospital’s acting director says that Mukwaya was taking advantage of the big numbers of intern students from different institutions trained in the facility to operate freely without being suspected.

Ahmed Hasunira, the Jinja central division police commander says that the suspects are being detained at Jinja central police station pending investigations. 

Hasunira adds that the suspects will face charges of possessing government stores.
