Jinja City Commences Road Rehabilitation Project Worth Shs16b

Date:

Jinja City, renowned for its historical significance and thriving economic activities, has taken a major stride toward improving its infrastructure. The city’s Mayor, Mr. Peter Okocha Kasolo, announced today that the municipality has initiated a comprehensive road rehabilitation project aimed at enhancing transportation networks within the urban center. The ambitious undertaking will see the repair and refurbishment of five major roads, with a budget allocation of Shs16 billion.

The roads selected for this crucial facelift have long been in need of attention due to wear and tear caused by heavy traffic flow and adverse weather conditions. The restoration project aims to address these issues head-on, ensuring that commuters and motorists alike can enjoy smoother, safer journeys while bolstering economic development in the region.

Mayor Okocha Kasolo expressed his enthusiasm about the initiative during a press conference held at Jinja City Hall earlier today. He highlighted the vital role that well-maintained roads play in facilitating trade, attracting investments, and improving the overall quality of life for residents. He said, “We understand that efficient road networks are the lifelines of any thriving city. Therefore, we are committed to investing in infrastructure that will not only meet the needs of our growing population but also stimulate economic growth in Jinja City.”

The roads slated for rehabilitation include the highly congested Main Street, the arterial Nkrumah Avenue, the critical Commercial Road, the bustling Kampala Road, and the crucial Nile Crescent. The selection of these major thoroughfares was based on careful analysis and consultation with various stakeholders, including transportation experts and community leaders. By focusing on these key routes, the municipal authorities aim to alleviate traffic congestion and create a more seamless flow of vehicles, thus reducing travel times for residents and businesses.

The road rehabilitation project will encompass various aspects, such as resurfacing damaged sections, improving drainage systems to prevent waterlogging, upgrading pedestrian walkways, and enhancing road markings and signage. Additionally, the project will incorporate environmentally friendly measures, including the planting of trees and the implementation of sustainable construction practices.

Mayor Okocha Kasolo assured citizens that the project would be executed with the utmost diligence and transparency. He emphasized that the selection of contractors and the execution of the rehabilitation works would be carried out through a competitive bidding process to ensure the highest standards of quality and cost-effectiveness.

The road rehabilitation project in Jinja City is expected to take approximately 12 months to complete. During this period, motorists and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution and adhere to the traffic regulations put in place to facilitate construction work. The local government also encourages the community to provide feedback and report any concerns they may have, as their involvement is crucial in ensuring the success of this significant infrastructure endeavor.

As the road repairs get underway, residents of Jinja City can look forward to smoother, more enjoyable journeys, improved safety, and a boost to the city’s overall appeal. With this substantial investment in infrastructure, Jinja City reaffirms its commitment to progress and development, setting the stage for a brighter future for all its residents and visitors.
