The Kampala boda rider defilement case has taken a critical turn after court authorities remanded 35-year-old David Muwanguzi over allegations of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl. Muwanguzi, who lives in Kyebando, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi on Tuesday and denied the charges.
Magistrate Kayizzi ordered his remand until July 28 due to his failure to present any sureties for bail. “Since you came without sureties, you will remain in custody,” the magistrate said.
State prosecutor Ivan Kyazze informed the court that police had completed investigations and asked for a date to begin trial proceedings.
The incident allegedly happened on July 4, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in Kyebando Kisalosalo. Police documents state that Muwanguzi engaged in a sexual act with a minor. The victim reported the case, prompting medical examination using Police Form 3A.
Investigators gathered evidence from the girl’s guardian—her biological parents are deceased—and interviewed neighbors. They also created a sketch of the scene and took photographs. The suspect was later questioned by detectives.
In a separate case, the court charged a 17-year-old boy with defiling a 14-year-old girl on July 5. He denied the charge and was sent to Naguru Remand Home until July 21, when his bail application will be heard.
Ugandan law treats defilement as a serious offense. It defines defilement as any sexual act with a person below 18 years. Convicted offenders risk lengthy prison terms, including life sentences.
This Kampala boda rider defilement case adds to growing concerns over the protection of minors in Kampala. Local leaders and child advocates continue to urge parents and guardians to report abuse and raise awareness of child safety laws.
