KAMPALA- The Lord Mayor of Kampala Capital City Authority, Erias Lukwago, has officially flagged off 7 state-of-the-art Ambulances which will boost the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Response in Kampala.
While speaking at the occasion today, Lord Mayor Lukwago said that the launch was part of a wider strategic plan to improve on the Ambulance Services in the City which has a planned fleet of 70 Vehicles but currently stands at only five.
The Lord Mayor inspected each Ambulance before handing over to the respective Division Mayors and further said there is need to improve and equip the health facilities around the City and phase out the current Health Centre IV which are not in tandem with the City’s health demands and cannot effectively support the emergency medical services.
Lord Mayor Lukwago urged the Division Mayor’s to handle the Ambulances well and called on the public to use the 24 hrs emergency lines for the set purpose adding that the Ambulances shouldn’t be turned in to hearses for transporting the dead.
According to the KCCA Executive Director Ms Dorothy Kisaka, the seven Ambulances which cost Ugx 1.6 billion and consists of six type B and one of only five type C (ICU) ambulances in the Country.
