Maj. John Kazoora Remembered as a Selfless Patriot by Gen. Sabiiti Muzeyi

At a moving requiem mass held at All Saints Cathedral Nakasero, Maj. Gen. Sabiiti Muzeyi paid glowing tribute to the late Maj. John Kazoora, describing him as a true Ugandan patriot who served the country without expecting personal gain.

Maj. Kazoora, a former Kashari County MP and once Director of Operations for the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), passed away on Easter Sunday.

Speaking to mourners, Gen. Muzeyi, who now serves as Managing Director of Luweero Industries, reflected on Kazoora’s courage, highlighting how the former NRA combatant joined the bush war in 1982 at just 24 years old.

“Maj. Kazoora’s life embodied unwavering patriotism,” said Gen. Muzeyi. “He, along with others, took up arms not for accolades or rewards, but to liberate Uganda from insecurity, sectarian politics, and fragmentation.”

Muzeyi noted that thanks to the sacrifices of fighters like Kazoora, Uganda has achieved peace and now contributes to stabilizing neighboring countries like Somalia and the DRC.

He emphasized that Uganda’s regional growth—from just three countries in the early days of the East African Community to eight today—was possible due to the dedication of those early freedom fighters.

Kazoora’s contribution went beyond the battlefield. He served in multiple civil roles, including Special District Administrator and later as a Member of Parliament for a decade.

“His legacy goes beyond his military and political career. He was deeply committed to serving humanity and his nation,” Gen. Muzeyi added.

The funeral service drew political leaders, family, and comrades from across the political divide, many of whom echoed sentiments about Kazoora’s enduring impact on Uganda’s journey toward stability and democracy.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDHzxk0t7U8
