Museveni Launches Construction of Bukasa–Ssentema–Kakiri Road in Wakiso

By Bizmart Africa | July 9, 2025

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, joined by First Lady Janet Museveni, has officially flagged off the construction of the Bukasa–Ssentema–Kakiri Road in Wakiso District, marking a major step in regional infrastructure development.

The ceremony took place at Bukasa Catholic Church, where residents gathered to witness the groundbreaking of the 12.7-kilometre dual carriageway, expected to ease transportation and trade in Busiro County.

The road, which is 18 metres wide, is being constructed by Chinese firm CICO at a cost of UGX 56 billion. According to Eng. Simon Odoki, the resident contractor, the project started in May 2025 and is scheduled for completion by November 2026. Progress as of July stands at 4.1%.

A Strategic NRM Development Milestone

President Museveni highlighted that the road is part of the NRM’s broader development strategy rooted in its Ten Point Programme, focusing on vertical and horizontal integration.

“Tarmacking roads is vital, but equally important is improving income at the household level,” Museveni noted, urging citizens to embrace wealth creation as a foundation for national progress.

He added that job creation, industrial growth, and the expansion of services like transport and tourism should complement road infrastructure.

Road to Empowerment and Local Support

To support community development, Museveni donated UGX 300 million to Bukasa Catholic Church and the local Protestant church.

Former Vice President Gilbert Bukenya, who attended the launch, praised the project, saying it reflects NRM’s dedication to progress. He called on locals to support President Museveni and the NRM in the upcoming elections, citing ongoing achievements like value addition in factories and local job creation.

Community Cooperation Commended

Eng. Odoki applauded residents of Wakiso for providing right of way voluntarily, helping fast-track the project. He credited President Museveni’s leadership for the vision behind improved connectivity.

The Bukasa–Ssentema–Kakiri Road is expected to significantly enhance transportation, stimulate local trade, and drive socio-economic transformation across Wakiso and neighboring areas.https://x.com/GovUganda/status/1942693655762067805
