NETA scholarships and bursaries will support needy learners across Uganda as the National Entrepreneurs and Traders Association rolls out a new education initiative. The programme targets students from nursery to tertiary institutions, with the aim of improving access to education for children from vulnerable backgrounds.
According to the association, the initiative will prioritise talented learners, orphans, and students from financially disadvantaged families. NETA seeks to reduce school dropouts and help beneficiaries complete all levels of schooling. The move responds to rising education costs that continue to limit access for many households.
Through this programme, NETA scholarships and bursaries form part of a wider effort to combine social welfare with economic empowerment, ensuring that capable students receive consistent support throughout their academic journey.
NETA scholarships and bursaries go beyond tuition
The association said the programme will extend beyond payment of school fees. Beneficiaries will also receive psycho-social support, scholastic materials, and structured guidance to improve learning outcomes.
NETA also plans to facilitate clear pathways into internships, industrial training, and eventual employment. This approach links education with skills development and job readiness. By doing so, the association aims to prepare students for productive participation in the economy after graduation.

Speaking about the initiative, Thadeus Nagenda, president of the National Entrepreneurs and Traders Association, said the programme reflects the association’s responsibility to its members and stakeholders.
“As NETA, we believe our first core responsibility to the business community and our stakeholders is to identify their needs and come up with viable solutions,” he said. He added that the association will also provide scholastic materials to eligible students who meet the set criteria.
His remarks highlight the link between education support and long-term economic empowerment, which sits at the core of the association’s mission.
