Police in Sembabule have mounted road blocks at all roads entering the district to prevent non-residents from taking part in the National Residence Movement (NRM) party residual parliamentary primaries in Mawogola North and Mawogola West constituencies.
This followed reports that some party members from other districts had been ferried to Sembabule to vote for particular candidates in the race.
Sembabule is bordered by several districts, like Mubende in the north, Gomba at the North East, Kiruhura, Bukomansimbi, Lwengo and Lyantonde.
NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Mr Tanga Odoi who has been camped in the area since last evening warned voters against engaging in any form of violence, threatening to cancel the exercise once any chaos erupts.
Voter bribery claims have already been reported in some villages in Mawogola West constituency where nine people were arrested following allegations that they were distributing Shs10,000 to each party member to vote in favour of a particular candidate in villages of Nankondo ,Ndaigaa ,Katwe and Ntete .
Mr Muhammad Nsubuga , the southern regional spokesperson confirmed the arrests.
NRM primaries in the two constituencies were supposed to take place on September 4 like elsewhere in the country, but were called off following cases of violence and intimidation from competing camps.
In Mawogola North, the race attracted three contenders including Salim Kisekka, Shartis Musherure Kutesa and Godfrey Aine Kaguta Sodo, However, it is a two horse race between the latter, that is, Kutesa and Kaguta.
In Mawogola West, Anifa Kawooya Bangirana,the Sembabule Woman MP is tussling it out with Mawogola County MP Joseph Ssekabitto for the party flag .
