Royal Wedding Fundraising Effort in Busoga Sub-region Raises Shs304m

Date:

Jinja, Uganda – September 25, 2023

In a remarkable show of support and unity, the organizing committee for the upcoming royal wedding of Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV and Ms. Jovia Mutesi announced that they have successfully raised Shs304 million to fund the extravagant celebration. The wedding of Kyabazinga Gabula and Ms. Mutesi is set to take place on November 18 at Bugembe Christ’s Cathedral in Jinja North City Division, Uganda.

The 23-member organizing committee, led by Mr. Patrick Batumbya, Chairman of the committee, has been tirelessly working to ensure that the royal wedding becomes an unforgettable event. Notable members of the committee include Ms. Dorothy Kisaka, the Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA); Minister for the Presidency Milly Babalanda; Mr. Aggrey Kibenge, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Gender; Mr. George Bwanga from the Ministry of Works; Ms. Kasule Lumumba, the Minister for General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister; Dr. Muhammed Lubega, the Chairperson of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council; and Hajj Swaibu Kitezala, the Director of Jinja Progressive Academy (Jipra).

The impressive fundraising effort was announced at the kingdom headquarters last Friday, where Mr. Batumbya expressed his gratitude to the committee members and well-wishers. He also mentioned that Bugabula and Bunha chiefdoms, representing the Kyabazinga and Inhebantu respectively, are expected to make substantial contributions to the wedding.

Mr. Joseph Muvawala, the kingdom’s Prime Minister, emphasized that the wedding venues have limited capacity, with Bugembe Cathedral accommodating only 400 people and the reception venue hosting a maximum of 2,000 guests. As a result, mini venues in the district have been arranged to accommodate additional attendees.

While Mr. Muvawala did not disclose the proposed budget for the grand event, he encouraged well-wishers to contribute to the fundraising effort. He noted that all the funds needed for the wedding are expected to be raised internally, emphasizing that this would showcase the prosperity and unity of the Busoga Sub-region.

In a statement at the fundraising event, Ms. Rebecca Kadaga, the Minister for East African Community Affairs, urged the organizing committee to exercise caution when collecting contributions. She stressed the importance of ensuring that the wedding goes off without a hitch and becomes a historic event, saying, “I request you (members of the organizing committee) to be careful and avoid collecting money from people who will say the wedding wouldn’t have taken place if their contribution was not made.”

Ms. Kadaga further urged the organizers to make it the “wedding of the century,” emphasizing the significance of the occasion not only for the royal couple but also for the entire Busoga Sub-region.

As the wedding date approaches, anticipation and excitement continue to build in Busoga, with the entire community coming together to support the Kyabazinga and his bride-to-be, Ms. Mutesi, in celebrating their union.

The royal wedding promises to be a memorable event, reflecting the rich culture and traditions of the Busoga kingdom and showcasing the unity and generosity of the people in the region.
