A Rubirizi domestic violence incident has left residents of Ndekye I Village in shock after a 50-year-old woman, only identified as Kahindo, was allegedly killed by her husband during a violent altercation. The tragic event unfolded on Saturday at their home in Ryeru Sub-county, Rubirizi District.
Police arrested the suspect, Sunday Tadeo, aged 50, at the scene shortly after responding to emergency calls. According to SP Apollo Tayebwa, the spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi Region Police, officers found Tadeo inside the house where the fight had occurred and where Kahindo died from her injuries.
Officers immediately secured the location, gathered physical evidence, and transported the deceased’s body to Rugazi Health Centre IV for a post-mortem examination. Early findings suggest the altercation was the result of a prolonged domestic dispute between the couple. The case has reignited public concern about intimate partner violence in rural communities.
Police have urged residents to report domestic issues before they escalate. SP Tayebwa emphasized that seeking help from authorities can prevent irreversible outcomes. He added that no one should endure abuse in silence or take justice into their own hands. The force is encouraging communities to use available legal and support systems.
The Rubirizi domestic violence incident has triggered grief and alarm among locals, many of whom are calling for more education, intervention programs, and accessible support services for families at risk. This event serves as a painful reminder of the dangers posed by unresolved domestic conflicts.
Authorities say investigations are still ongoing. Additional updates will be provided as more facts emerge. Meanwhile, the suspect remains in custody and will be charged once investigations are complete.
For victims or those witnessing signs of domestic abuse, the Uganda Police encourages immediate reporting. Support and protection are available through family protection units across the country.
