SFC Flags-off Teams for 17th CDF Cup

Date:

The SFC CDF Cup has officially kicked off its 17th edition, with the Special Forces Command (SFC) flagging off its Rangers and football team ahead of the highly anticipated tournament in Masaka. Running from August 26 to September 5, 2025, the competition is set to bring together more than 20 teams from across the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

This year’s SFC CDF Cup will be hosted at Masaka Secondary School playground and nearby venues, featuring a wide range of activities including football, netball, range shooting, and even tree planting, showcasing both athletic ability and community impact.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held on August 23 at VVIPTS-Sera Kasenyi, SFC Commander Maj. Gen. David Mugisha urged participants to stay disciplined on and off the field. He reminded them of SFC’s proud history in the tournament and challenged the teams to meet the high expectations set by past performances.

Brig. Gen. J.B. Asinguza, Commander of 1 Special Forces Group, also rallied the players to approach the tournament with unity, professionalism, and courage. He emphasized that the SFC should set the standard for excellence among all UPDF competitors.

The SFC CDF Cup has grown into one of the UPDF’s most celebrated sporting and cultural events, fostering teamwork, fitness, and camaraderie while strengthening the bond between forces and local communities. With SFC’s determination and track record, fans and fellow servicemen will be watching closely to see if the Rangers and football squad can once again make their mark on the tournament.
