Speeding UPDF truck knocks Sembabule man dead

Date:

Police in sembabule District are investigating a case in which a speeding UPDF truck knocked dead a 35-year-old man.
Eye witnesses said the truck registration number H4DF 2074 knocked one Robert Kimbasawo alias Faho at Kyabi trading center along Sembabule – Maddu Gomba road.
Authorities said the truck was transporting a body of a fallen UPDF officer from Masaka to Mubende for burial.
Eye witnesses claimed Kimbasawo was knocked while trying to cross the road drunk.

“We were not surprised when we heard that he had been knocked dead because he was too drunk and he had just urinated in public because he was acting under the influence of alcohol,” one Andrew Kaggwa said.
Mr James Ziraba Muzaale, the officer in charge of traffic in Sembabule District said they were still investigating the cause of the accident but the victim’s body had been taken to Sembabule hospital for postmortem.

He said the UPDF truck had been allowed to continue with their journey.
He appealed to residents to avoid using the road when drunk.
However, some residents accused the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) of failing to put roads humps at Kyabi trading center saying accidents have become common in the area.
“We were excited about the construction of this road but the number of accidents happening in this area is scaring. It has become a death trap for the residents. Authorities should intervene before it’s too late,” Mr Anthony Kawalya said.
