Two Arrested Over Murder of Amuru Casual Laborer

Eyewitnesses told police that the duo waylaid Christopher Owiny on March 13th this year and beat him into coma before dumping his lifeless by the roadside on the way to his home.

Two people are in police custody in Amuru district for allegedly beating to death a 37-year-old casual laborer. 

The suspects are Morris Ocan alias Peko 20, and Patrick Kilama aged 25, all residents of Lajalula village in Palyec Parish in Amuru Sub-County. 

  Eyewitnesses told police that the duo waylaid Christopher Owiny on March 13th this year and beat him into coma before dumping his lifeless by the roadside on the way to his home.   

Preliminary police findings indicate that Owiny was from Agago District and was working for unidentified person in Amuru.  

According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was relaxing at a local pub on the fateful evening before the attack.         

The Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, Patrick Jimmy Okema, says Owiny breathed his last as sympathizers were arranging to take him to the nearby health facility for emergency treatment.

According to Okema, police has been hunting for the suspects who had gone into hiding until they were picked up on Monday. 

He said they have gathered incriminating evidence and testimony from eyewitnesses implicating the two who are expected to appear before the Amuru Grade One Magistrate on murder charges.

The deceased’s body has been transported to the mortuary of Uganda People’s Defense Forces – UPDF 4th Infantry Division Barracks in Gulu Municipality pending burial arrangements by the relatives.
