Arua Road Accident Kills Two, Leaves One Seriously Injured

Date:

A deadly Arua road accident on Tuesday night left two people dead and one woman seriously injured following a collision at Awindiri Trading Center along the Arua–Nebbi Road. The crash occurred on June 18, 2025, around 8:45 PM, involving a truck and two motorcycles.

SP Collins Asea, the West Nile Region Police spokesperson, confirmed that both motorcycles and the truck were traveling from Nebbi toward Arua City when the crash happened. One motorcycle rider, transporting sacks of silver fish, attempted to overtake the truck from the left side.

“One of the sacks struck the side of the truck, pulling the motorcycle and its passengers underneath the wheels,” SP Asea explained.

Unidentified Victims Die Instantly in Arua Road Accident

The impact killed the motorcycle rider and his passenger on the spot. Authorities have not yet identified the deceased. The involved truck, a Sino model, had dual registration numbers CGO3918AC and CGO4033AC. The motorcycles included a Bajaj Boxer with plate number UFV725P and an unregistered Senke model with chassis number LGVSJP1O6PZ302245.

Woman Seriously Injured in Crash

The only survivor, 25-year-old Collet Anguparu from Wandi in Terego District, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment. Traffic officers responded quickly, securing the area and transporting the bodies to Arua City Mortuary for postmortem examinations.

Police Launch Investigation

The truck driver was detained to assist with investigations. The second motorcycle rider reportedly fled and remains at large. The police impounded all vehicles involved and towed them to Arua Central Police Station for inspection.

“The cause of the Arua road accident is still under investigation, but we urge motorists to avoid reckless overtaking,” SP Asea advised.

Police registered the case under TSD 07/18/06/2025 and TAR:099/2025 at Arua City Central Police Station. Authorities emphasized the dangers of overtaking while carrying unstable loads and stressed the need for road users to remain vigilant.

This latest tragedy reinforces the importance of improving traffic enforcement and rider education across Uganda.
