Police in Budaka District are investigating a shocking robbery in Budaka District that targeted a local statistician. The incident occurred late Monday night and has raised serious concerns about the rising crime rate in the area. North Bukedi Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Wilfred Kyempasa, confirmed the attack on Mr. Tinka Vianney Mugisha, a 26-year-old statistician from Nankone Village, who was ambushed by unknown assailants.
Robbery Details and Suspects’ Escape
Mr. Mugisha had been riding home on his motorcycle when the attackers struck. They grabbed a navy-blue bag from him, which contained three POS machines, a printer, an office stamp, keys, record books, three mobile phones, and Shs 3,566,000 in cash. The total value of the stolen goods is estimated at Shs 9,400,000. This robbery in Budaka District took not only money but also important tools that could prevent Mr. Mugisha from performing his duties effectively.
As Mr. Mugisha reached his gate, he fought off two of the assailants. Then, a third attacker, wearing a green and black jacket, appeared. The victim heard the unmistakable sound of a gun being cocked, which caused him to flee for safety. He ran to a neighbor’s house for help. The weapon’s presence made the crime even more terrifying, and Mr. Mugisha’s quick actions may have saved his life.
Neighbors rushed to his aid, but the suspects had already escaped on an unidentified motorcycle. They left one of the phones behind, but managed to make their getaway. Police have yet to make any arrests. They have registered a case of aggravated robbery under VID CRB BDK 201/2025. Crime scene officers and detectives visited the location to collect evidence and document the scene. They are reviewing security footage to identify the suspects.
“We have launched a manhunt for the suspects. Preliminary information suggests that this could be part of a wider gang operating in the area,” said ASP Kyempasa in a statement released on Tuesday. Police are asking anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
